Our Thoughts: Arrived after having breakfast at Freeland Cafe on Whidbey Island, which is a diner we always stop by when we're driving thru the area.
The sun hid behind the clouds when we first arrived, making it chill with the constant breeze. Heading inside the decommisioned fort actually warmed us up as we stepped out of the wind. More of the fort is open to the public now and the state is working on a restoration project, including repainting and placing lights. Bring a flashlight though, because there are plenty of pitch-black rooms.
The sun came out in the second half of our trek, which went through the mortars. Plenty of green all around and very, very dark inside.
