Our Thoughts: Hot hot hot. We arrived early (pre 9AM) to beat the heat and crowds. It was still too warm for our liking, but there were not many folks there when we arrived (hooray for shade parking). There are several spots with access to the water, but this park can get crowded. If you want a beach spot, we suggest getting there early.
We walked along the Homestead and Orchard paths, which had lovely shade provided by the trees and massive blackberry vines. While the beach was crowded, the trails were not, making it a peaceful walk. Joe found a red-eared turtle hanging out on the grass, and we spotted one sunning itself on a log a little later. The birds were out in full force.
After an hour, we headed towards the water and navigated through the crowd to reach the wetlands trail. Shade was a plus, but it was getting hotter, and we both needed water. Reminder for next time: bring more water and don’t leave it in the truck.
Overall, we enjoyed walking the trails and only left due to the heat.
